Get Back On Track

Today I was very upset with someone for they way I felt they were speaking to me. Notice I said ” I felt” because how I felt in the communication was a result of my interpretation and has nothing to do with what was really happening. I realized this early on but I still felt very upset. I even said to a friend ” I realize my upsetness is because of me, not the other person”. I realized I have control of my emotions not that other person. In spite of this insight, I remained upset for a few hours. I tried to stop being upset a few time, but I still felt mad. For a while I thought this feeling would never leave me. Then I realized, the more I tried not to be upset the more upset I got.

I then made a decision to just be OK with how I felt. If I felt upset, then that was fine. When I made that decision, I suddenly found that I wasn’t as upset. I started to actually feel a bit better. The bottom line is : we are only human and we are not perfect. No matter how much inner peace training we have, we will falter sometimes, and that is OK. When you do, just acknowledge it and be OK with it. Then when you are ready make a decision to get back on track and just do it. That’s what I am doing.
